so i am once again in love with my donkey.
we are bonding once again

say wha?

i just came back from tadoussac... 100 klicks away from home.
i read sofi`s emailemail saturday at midnight with all the numbers of my friends now living in rimouski (5 hours away, ferry and all... much more for a hicthiker like me)

went to bed saturday. called Katryne at 20 to 8 am... We hadnt spoken or written the last 3 (THREE) years!!! my packsack was ready to hit the road. mitch was heading out for work at 8 so I had a ride out of down. Kat was going to tadoussac ( so much closer for me) ... and my other friends weren`t around in rimouski. so I headed out there to meet up with her. Hurray!!! so much fun . I saw a whole lot of wales from the coast!!

last thing we did before I headed back home this afternoon was snorkle in the st-lawrence river... i cant name all the stuff i saw in english but it was an awesome feeling to float around on the surface and see so many beautiful and fragile yet resistant creature at arms lenght (well, most of the times)

It took me less than an hour and I was back in my appartment. I grabbed my donkey and headed out for groceries... bought a new bike chain, and degreaser (yet an another investment) ... and will probably get an shorter potense (you know, the thing that links donkey`s frame to the handle bars...)...cuz im tires of stretching my neck...before I do that though i`ll try adjusting my seat a bit further ...but it always loosens and gets wabbly...

I`m so glad I headed out of town this weekend... i`m gonna like this 3 1/2 days on 3 1/2 days off. there`s the 'Festival du message`this weekens with a bounch of awesome bands and i most probably will be heading out there.

i`ve been spending a wackload of time with mitch and It was good for me to head out on my own. I didnt want to wait around in case he had monday tuesday off. and then be stuck in town. this short trip really allowed me to grasp how I want to continue feeling the rest of the summer. this is a good start.

i miss yous and miss conversations with yous

my parents came for an eclipse visit. they arrived a day earlier than planned (my suggestion.. so that we would have more time to spend togther...

i gave them the key to my house and went to the movie theater with friends... they were tired and I had already made the plans.
was I ever startled when my dad came in 45 minutes after the beginning of the movie to hand me back my key... Found me in the dark!!!!!! whaddaf%?&$/. My home wasnt in a state (cleanliness) they felt confortable with. Imagine that... that they would come find me in the movie theater!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to respect their confort level but it started the visit awkwardly and I was saddened by it all...

but then again... i cant say it wasnt a mess.. I hadent finished moving in...

i`m back in chicoutimi. time in montreal was brief as usual. spent sum time with family. met mitch`cool uncle and aunt who have decided to get married in november after 16 years together. huh!

i saw nikki. my friend from grade 9 who I hadnt seent since then. 8 years. I saw quite a few of my beautiful friends who I barely saw the last 3 years and was delighted to see how they are involved in a positive way in their respective communities. Met up with Sof for a picnic at mount-royal. yup! yup! it was great to see you!

now Im back in the saguenay. today I`m trying to get electricity and phone connected. It was suspended and cancelled for the summer as my roomates, leika and Rosee are in California and Costa Rica.

I`m getting settled into this new home of mine. I own no furniture for now. and i`ll keep it pretty simple. I`ll be painting my room in a few days. My stuff is at Mitch` dad`s and at his mums... I cant wait to get settled in my own place. Even though they are super welcoming I have this fear of being a `free loader` ...sumthing my mum tells me is the worst thing I could ever become...

I`ve starting working as a kayak guide in the saguenay. in a beautiful setting. taking tourists out for 3 hour excursions. I also will accompany groups on the via ferrata,... a rock climbing trail overlooking the fjord (with man-made installations... cables etc... to connect yourself to)

I have a lot to learn about how it all works cause every one has been trained a month ago.. while i was still up north. It`ll be a challenge!!!

today, I went to the hospital. My dang tonsils are giving me a hard time again. ever since after the expedition to kimmirut where mitch and I binged on maybe more than 6 'pot of gold' chocolate boxes... they`ve been sore.. swollen... and now full of 'puss'

so, its not mono... maybe a virus... maybe they want to take them out cause theyre bigger than the normm... and get infected more easily...

this has been going on too long.

yaaaaa

im in kimmirut. a neighoboring community of iqaluit... 120 klicks if i were a bird. only im not.

it took us 12 days and 160km or more, including detours to get here. it was an eamazing experience. we came at the least ideal time of the year ...since the rivers are opening or open and the lakes are thawing so that definetely made it more challenging... but definetely well worth it. its safe to say that our feet wet well over 90% of the time.

we saw 10 caribou... soooooo many geese... a arctic fox... maybe polar bear paw prints... sooo many different birds... awesome plants... sum trees!!! (willows)

kimmirut has 400 population. the people are extremely easy-going. what we mostly do is sit around all day and drink coffee... sitting on the front porch of the visitor center or hanging out in town... or at the school.. meeting people this way and learning this way. its great.

oh yeah! we skied 8 days and hikes 4 days! there just wasnt any more snow to ski on and we got tired of hiking in our ski boots carrying our heavy skis in our hands.. so we strapped them on to the packs and that added so MUCH weight... cause we were doing a back country expedition with downhill skis . good enough. just totally heavy to be worn on our packs.

weve also managed to create great contacts for the Active youth expedition we are planning for next spring with the kids from the program i run in iqaluit with mitch, my supercalifragilistic partner (5 months yesterday! woot woot!).

anyway, i have to go pay my visa card right now... payment which will be late once again. viva my not so good credit. take care yall. am thinking of you often.

Dec. 22nd, 2005 @ 04:26 pm UNI OVER!!!
uni is over.
havent felt this relaxed in a long time.
when the day was over, i came home and started organizing my stuff for the next semester.
this fall was sooooo hectic. i was completely unable to be organized in this small cell of mine of a room.
i have a tall wooden library now that goes up to the ceiling and i am liking the prospect of being able to find my shit when i need to!

monday night a few of us had supper at cyn's. mitch and i left at 11:30 pm to go snowshewing and set up camp probably around 2:30 in the morning. cRaZy tAlkS fOr hoUrs. Outbursts of laughter. Sleep. Outbursts of laughter. stayed in the tent until 1:30: talk talk talk. fuck it feels good to have GoOd conversation and exchange ideas and perspectives and build. I havent connected with anyone i have met in chicoutimi in this way. But surprisingly, i think it had more to to with MY state of mind,... kind of being elsewhere... not opening myself... not feeling SUPER LADIDA. I am meeting so many beautiful peeps lately. CONTENT. COnTENT. COntEnt.

smling.

I am HAPPY! with my job!! can you believe it: i ski and chat with peeps who are HAPPY to be outside. Chop wood. Tend to fire. Cut branches. SKi ski ski. Sell tickets and annual super affordable passes (29$)to have access to ski trails. Feel supported and trusted at work. Boss appreciates small initiatives. Boss is professionnal prhotographer. Pionner of Kayaking in Quebec.

This is how i want my life in chicoutimi to be. FUnTAstic. I am laughing so much lately it feels SOOOOoo good!

Monday i made homemade gifts with recuperated leather mitch "barted" (uh....first time i used this word..CORRECTION: bartered!!!)
bookmarks with hemp and dried avocado nuts...
bracelets
books..

the only baught gift will be NOn violent communication for my sister. she is AMAZING and i would luv it for her to have this book. i bought it before my account was in the red. well, that relative because of the credit card situation happened long before...

and my dad will get an acquired fairtrade chocolate bar.

I am leaving for st-bruno tomorrow afternoon. i was supposed to leave soon after work by bus (thanks mum and dad!) but it is too soon. i am tired of being rushed. or rather, of setting myself up to rush...

yeah thats more like it.

i am gonna be in st-bruno from the 213rd to the 2nd.. or maybe just the 31st. fun fun fun. i was supposed to work on the 29th and 30th but i will be receiving cross-country ski instructor training yhr 28th and 29th.. in ST bruno!!! lucky for me it was the only place that was giving it. and theres more ...!!! this 100$ training is payed by my employer...it is normally not !

I have made plans to see the friends i love. one on one soirée with Andréanne, my beautiful friend who i havent seen in almost a year, who i lived with, cuddles with, conspired with, cried with, v'been hysterical with, have been outraged with and can pour my heart out to.

+

there is the ANNUAL x-mas time most awesome happening at my friend simon philippes with friends from st-bruno highschool years and cegep years.. seeing all these folks..AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Simon philippe was planning on leaving forever until he came back.. sailing... and decided to go make big money selling unethical trees in NYC. and will be hosting this amazing fiesta on the 27th! i was so surprised when i heard it was on this year again!

i am continuing to organize my stuff tonight. will right an article on menstrual products, chlorine, and what we can do about it.

and dream about meagan and mine keeper extravagant bike tour that will happen sum day!

yup

love you all.

oh yeah! i have to pack too.

I stepped into the cafe.

in disbelief that this place exists within the town ive been living in for the last 3 months.

took out my glasses from my backpack to check out the beautiful creations that hand up to 20 feet high along the walls.

i felt really stone rigth then and there.

I hadnt eaten much all day.

and i Ate supper only once i realized the pot filled cupcakes Eric gave me one the way the music store would have a pretty sharp effect cause i was totally sober.

These baked goods he made with his uncle are addictive.

Why you ask?

the chocolate chips of course.

After deciding we did not want to pay 5$ for the remaining half hour of the musical impro cyn and i decided to wander the streets.

We called up Dan and decided to drop by his place.

On the way, we met Marilo who was heading home cuz she works tomorrow. Shes in her last year of the same program and has been working 20 hours a weeks at another cafe downtown for the last 3 years. As she was telling us this, i think i was staring at her ... i dont know how she managed with all the hecticity of the program...

anyhow, she told us that there were sum folks at this other party for maud's b-day. we went by dan's and all 3 of us headed over with wine.

i was cool to chat with folks who ive crossed paths with all semester but hadnt talked much with...

however i was anticipating my 6:50 am wake up call and remembering how good i had felt last saturday having slept a whole lot the night before the class.

i chugged down a glass of wine... cyn stared at me with big eyes when i told her it just tasted like juice to me...

walked home with Pierre, a 3 yr student who's advising a similar project to otesha but its 2 years and is pan-american..

got in bed at 1 am. felt really dehydrated. could not sleep. felt really buzzed. started to analyse all the thins i wish i had done different for the last little while... not letting my naturopahty school where im at is among those. having spent my parents money one this semester i did not fully immerse myelf in is another. doubting my willingness to be where im at. i just wanted my brain to stop.

could not sleep. drank sum water. could not sleep. went to pee.

urgh

last time i checked the clock it was almost 4 am.

i didnt feel all that great in this body of mine today.

worked hard to focus and keep my eyes open.

tonight is sophy's b-day. we're supposed to do a surprise at the neighbours house. its 10 pm now... i wonder when that will happen...

i made her a huge recup-birthday card.

i also want to sleep.

i also want food. my fridge is empty once again.
but my freezer is full of compost which will eventually be dropped off at the uni compost when my bag isnt too full of oother stuff.

maybe i can eat compost.

Dec. 1st, 2005 @ 11:56 am my sorry self
last night i discovered a little chicout gem.

every 2 tuesdays there is a short film, audio, performance night at La tour à biere. there is a theme and peeps just do their thing and present. its a bar in a old house. on the second floor. smokey and crowded upstairs. but thats where the fun happens.

i went there with cynm after i ran all the way to the musik store where she works to meet up with her. Felt so good. we walked there singing tracy chapman and weezer songs, trying to get regina spektor outta my head for a while. hard to get a song outta my head, especially when the other weezer song she was singing i didnt know.

funny thing. cyn knows Rosée too. and Rosée`s sista, Gaelle... theyre both from sherbrooke.
i met with Rosée there, talkin about moving into a place together sum time ... i need space. even though i wont be there much next fall, i need space to breathe and all the crap i own needs a space to liv. its too crowded in my small cubicle, at the end of the labyrinth... the walls are caving in on me.

earlier this week i went over to cyn`s and we ate vietmnamiese food with mat and florent. i chilled out in mp`s room a bit on her bed with the kitten who vomited and one who didn`t. i couldnt get over how good it feel to have more that one square meter of free space to move around in my room. i didnt wanto to leave. it felt so good.

i want a place to live, not only to dump my stuff and pay cheap rent. i will be in chicoutimi for a while. i want to share good homemade food. share fresh vedgies. i want a living room to chill and a kitchen where i can do home work... i want plants every where. i want to just be and chat openly about what matters most.

(...)

i have so much drive right now i need sumthing envigourating to do.

i want to be outside and run all over the place

run all day. bike all day. have sex all day.

do all but cram all the shit i need to know for my final exam tomorrow.

the calm in this library is driving me insane.

i cant sit still but will have to for the rest of the day.

i ate rice wrapped in wine leaves,

today was a wonderful day.
i arrived at 8:30 am on university research grounds.
saw max who was so zen walking about in the snow.
the campsite was just beautifil.
i started off trying to set up a big tarp 3 different ways. thats a D. in less than 10 minutes, is an A, but you cannot chose your setup area sumone choses it for your while youère walking in the woods.

i was trying just to set it up normaly and was having a hard time just remembering my knots. sad sad i was.

Max offered me advice and was super helpful. By the end of the day, i was really enjoying setting them up and from feeling pretty shitty to having an incredible boost in confidence, silly how that works.

I also boiled soapy water in less than 20 minutes, until it overflows.. starting with an axe, a few matches, one log, and a knife. thats a B. woot woot. It was hilarious, Max was being my coach by my side during the whole time giving me pointers ..do this do that, hurry.. last time i didnt even time myself because i knew i would just get a D which means i completed the challenge eventually... Tomorrow morning before heading out again i will boil sum more water on my back porch to start off the day right.

i ordred the book Humanure from Amazon books yesterday and am anxious to start reading it. i will write an article for my environmental ethics course on composting human shit in the outdoors as a sustaiable option as oppose to a septic tank which spues shit underneath the ground. we saw different human waste management classes in my outdoor infrastructure class and my action will be to compile info on it for the teacher to include it in the curriculum next year

i gotta go write an essay on my personnal evolution regarding environmentaion ethics. on a roll...

feeliung really good

see yall soon
